Carolina Voices: The William Friday Virtual Education Series

March 2021 UPDATE

Understanding that educators still need access to quality continuing education in North Carolina history, even during the time of COVID-19, the North Caroliniana Society and Carolina K-12 launched a virtual education series in the fall of 2020. These 1-2 hour online events elevate aspects of North Carolina’s history, people, events, culture, and more, while featuring prominent scholars, artists, authors, educators, and other professionals.

Carolina Voices: The William Friday Virtual Education Series

In 2016, committed to supporting our state’s K-12 teachers, the Society and Carolina K-12 fund of Carolina Public Humanities developed the William Friday Teacher Education Initiative, with the goal of equally educating and appreciating our state’s hard working educators through free, quality professional development events.

These retreats provide K-12 teachers with three dynamic days to learn about North Carolina’s captivating history, literature, and culture in an academic, professional and celebratory retreat atmosphere.  To date, 219 public school teachers from 74 NC counties have participated.  These teachers will reach a minimum of 30,660 K-12 students each year.
